Civil Warriors- The Civil War Round Table of Los Angeles/ West San Fernando Valley

"Between 1861 and 1865, Americans made war on each other and killed each other in great numbers -- if only to become the kind of country that could no longer conceive of how that was possible. What began as a bitter dispute over Union and States' Rights, ended as a struggle over the meaning of freedom in America. At Gettysburg in 1863, Abraham Lincoln said perhaps more than he knew. The war was about a 'new birth of freedom.'"

-The Civil War, by Ken Burns

Located Nationwide, Indeed Globally, Civil War Round Tables Consist of Numerous Independent Local Organizations Established to Help Ensure the Preservation of Our American Heritage: Specifically the Study of the Civil War and the Preservation of its Historic Sites and Battlefields.

Our Civil Warriors Round Table was formed in 1994, by Bob Bermant, Michael Blue, and Jeff Wissot. We are non-political and our members range in Civil War knowledge from novice to near expert. Each monthly meeting is devoted to a particular aspect of the American Civil War, featuring battles, politics, biographies, economics, socio-cultural dynamics, and issues of particular interest to the presenter. Members alternate as hosts, and we occasionally invite guest speakers, and arrange to attend special outings, such as Civil War plays or re-enactments.

We gather in the meeting room at the back of Weiler's Deli (map) in West Hills (22323 Sherman Way). There are no dues, although we request a $5 contribution to cover costs, or, $13, which includes dinner. This also helps us provide an annual donation to the Civil War Preservation Trust, for the preservation of battlefields and historical sites. It's a casual group atmosphere and we always welcome guests.

Please do consider a tax-deductible membership in the Civil War Preservation Trust, 888-606-1400. Your contribution will help battlefield preservation efforts and will reward you with a periodic newsletter and other benefits.
