"Between 1861 and 1865, Americans made war on each other and killed each other in great numbers -- if only to become the kind of country that could no longer conceive of how that was possible. What began as a bitter dispute over Union and States' Rights, ended as a struggle over the meaning of freedom in America. At Gettysburg in 1863, Abraham Lincoln said perhaps more than he knew. The war was about a 'new birth of freedom.'"
Preservation of Our American Heritage
The CIVIL WARRIORS ROUND TABLE was formed in 1994, by Bob Bermont, Michael Blue, and Jeff Wissot. Members range in Civil War knowledge from novice to near expert. Each monthly meeting is devoted to a particular aspect of the American Civil War, featuring battles, politics, biographies, economics, socio-cultural dynamics, and issues of particular interest to the presenter. Members alternate as hosts, and we occasionally invite guest speakers, and arrange to attend special outings, such as plays about the Civil War, or re-enactments.
For information, or to be placed on our mailing or Fax list, please contact: Michael Blue, CPA (818) 225-7296 or Jeffrey L. Wissot, DDS (818) 224-2001 e-mail We gather in a meeting room at Weiler's Deli (map) in West Hills. There are no dues, although we request a $5 contribution to cover costs, or, $10, including dinner. This helps us provide an annual donation to the Civil War Round Table Association, for the preservation of battlefields and historical sites. It's a casual group atmosphere and we always welcome guests.
